While the guessing games continue on who'll be replacing Joy Behar on ABC's The View, Whoopi Goldberg is making sure everyone knows she doesn't care who leaves the show or stays...but word is leaking that Sherri Shepherd might be the one heading out the door, not Elisabeth Hasselbeck as heavily reported. Barbara Walters has been keeping busy trying to quell rumors that conservative Hasselbeck has been fired after this season, but we continually keep hearing that media focus is on the wrong co-host.
The two replacement considerations we know are Alexandra Wentworth for Behar and Brooke Shields name keeps getting thrown in heavily into the mix. When asked about all the rumors, Goldberg had this to say to US Weekly.
"Let me tell you this about The View: I take a paycheck every other week. That's all I do. I could give a sh-t what comes. I do my job -- I have a contract. That's where I stand. I don't give a f-ck," Goldberg said. Goldberg added that she's not involved in any casting decisions. "I don't care. That's not my job," she explained. "My job is to show up and be cute by 11 o'clock and get the f-ck off that show by 12. And that's what I try to do."
The EGOT winner said she plugs her ears when people discuss rumored replacements for her co-hosts. "I think it's the only way to keep your sanity because these are not decisions that I get to make," Goldberg told US. "It ain't my show. It's Barbara's show."
Our ABC source who has always been right on with their info let us know, "With all the speculation about who's getting fired, everyone seems to think Elisabeth is the obvious choice, but she is the more popular one when it comes to Sherri. Don't be surprised if you see the unexpected happen after this season. Barbara got some interesting ideas to shake things up now that Joy is leaving."
When I asked them about Whoopi's comments: "Everybody loves Whoopi on the show, but trust me, she knows what's going on behind the scenes. She's just smart enough to not get involved in all the drama, and there's plenty of that going on with all the rumors swirling."
As we know, Walters loves proving people wrong so it'll be interesting to see if Shepherd leaves after this season. When even Saturday Night Live doesn't spoof her, you know something's up, and personally, I would rather have Hasselbeck stick around as at least she has solid opinions that she stands behind rather than continually running to her 'religion' when she doesn't have a coherent answer for certain topics. Who do you think would be great to replace Shepherd? We'll let you know as soon as we hear.
