Michael Bay had got many people scratching their head by doing the black comedy 'Pain and Gain' rather than an actioner, but here's a first look at a rather beefy Mark Wahlberg who plays a bodybuilder, so they're keeping it real.
'Pain and Gain' is definitely slumming it for Michael Bay with a budget of only $20 million, but I'm sure after so much 'Transformers' a dark comedy is a nice break. Plus he gets to work with Mark Wahlberg who definitely can handle comedy rather well. As you can see in the shots, Wahlberg has beefed up for the role, or at least, his legs definitely look more beefy than usual. Our readers will definitely enjoy that I know, especially when the shot below looks like Wahlberg is checking out his thighs too.
'Pain and Gain' is described as 'Pulp Fiction' meets 'Fargo' and also stars Rob Corddry as a fellow bodybuilder. Unlike Bill Macy's car salesman in 'Fargo', this one centers around bodybuilders who conspire to kidnap and extort a wealthy Miami businessman (Tony Shaloub), only to find the situation spinning out of their control. I doubt if there'll be a wood chipper scene, but with Bay, he'll come up with something comparable, plus I'm curious to see how he handles this kind of film genre, plus it's a real life story.
Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie also star in the film as bodybuilders while Ed Harris plays the private investigator chasing them down.
The Michael Bay comedy (doesn't that just sound weird???) will hit theaters in 2013.
