Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost showed their Catfish skills could do well for Paranormal Activity 3. Now with Paranormal Activity 4 coming up on October 19, they've already secured Paranormal Activity 5 directing duties.
Paramount landed a lucrative franchise with Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity so Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost plan to keep it going with their own trilogy in the series. PA has been the franchise that you either really like it or hate it, but the studio is thankful there's way more likers and each movie keeps bringing in the Halloween dollars. Unlike the Saw franchise, creativity has remained pretty consistent and the Catfish filmmakers keep expanding on the mythology of the first film and want to keep going until they reveal the full history of the pesky demon.
The duo brought Paranormal Activity 4 into the present where they can show the horror that surrounds our everyday lives with today's technology. From the trailer and clips we know that webcams will be used, along with a new family who's moved next door to a family of witches. Then there's that creepy little boy that we don't quite know yet if he'll be trying to help or hurt them. We know from experience that not all that's used in the trailers may wind up in the actual film. Paranormal Activity 3 did that wonderfully so we were taken by surprise by the killer ending.
We know that Paranormal Activity 5 will be out in October 2013, but now we know we'll have the return of the Schulman Joost team. No word yet if PA4 writer Zack Estrin will be scripting the next installment yet.
