Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven, a remake of the 1960 film of the same name which was originally inspired by Seven Samurai, opens in theaters in September with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in two of the leads. As fans count down to the film’s release in the coming weeks, Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped new character videos for each of the seven main characters.
Washington plays Sam Chisolm, The Bounty Hunter, who “goes after bad guys,” as Fuqua explains. The Bounty Hunter assembles a team of seven gun men in the old west to help defend a village from savage thieves. “He’s a duly sworn war officer from Wichita, Kansas,” Washington said. “He’s a master with his weapon, courageous, he’s the man.”
Chris Pratt revealed what makes his character, Josh Faraday – also known as The Gambler – so unique. “Faraday is a bit of a fox. He’s a trickster, he’s a gambler, a drinker, he loves the ladies but he’s deadly in a firefight,” Pratt said.
Moviegoers may find an emotional draw to Vincent D’Onofrio as Jack Horne. D’onofrio said of his character, also known as The Hunter, “I come in because two guys rob me of what little stuff I have left in the mountains. My guy looks like a guy who used to have a life and has become a little rough around the edges since then.”
Ethan Hawk takes on the role of Goodnight Robicheaux, the Sharpshooter, but he may not be able to live up to his legacy and pull the trigger when needed. “One of the fun things about getting to play my character is that he’s no hero,” Hawk said. “He’s suffering from his demons, he’s superstitious and everyone thinks he’s this great guy and he wants to be that person.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, The Magnificent Seven also stars Haley Bennett, Peter Sarsgaard, Luke Grimes, Matt Bomer, Byung-hun Lee and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Check out the new poster and character videos below ahead of the film’s September 23 release.
